Ranking Structure and Belts

Everyone without any prior martial arts training will start off with a White Belt.  If you have prior training, you could start at a higher level, however this MUST be Approved by Shihan Tony.  With continued and consistent training, a student will move up in the ranks.  A student must be selected for advancement to the Black Belt ranks.

Adult Program (American Kenpo)
Belt Color Skill Level   Belt Color Skill Level
White Beginner   3rd Degree Brown Advanced
Yellow Beginner   2nd Degree Brown Advanced
Orange Beginner   1st Degree Brown Black Belt Candidate
Purple Intermediate   1st Black - Shodan Proficient
Blue Intermediate   2nd Black - Nidan Proficient
Blue Stripe Intermediate   3rd Black - Sandan Expert
Green Advanced   4th Black - Yondan Expert
Green Stripe Advanced   5th Black - Godan Master

The belt ranking structure differs slightly between the Adult and Children's Programs.  This is due largely to the attention span and learning ability between children and adults.  Most adult students can grasp the inherent concepts of the martial arts more quickly than a child.  The children's belt structure was designed to allow children to reach the goal of Black Belt by setting and accomplishing a series of  smaller goals.  In this manner, children do not get complacent in any one rank for an extended period of time. You may contact Shihan Tony anytime if you have any questions regarding the Belt Ranking structure.

The Tiny Tiger Ranks allow our youngest students to focus on martial arts basics and character development until they are mature enough for the Kenpo Kids Program.  All Tiny Tiger belts are white with a different color stripe to denote their time in the program.  Tiny Tiger's move to the Kenpo Kids when they either reach the White / Black Stripe Belt or Demonstrated Maturity past age 6.  The Ranks are designed so that when a 4 year old enters to school, they will be ready for Kenpo Kids by age 6.
